Choir Rules for SuccessThis is a featured page

The following rules are to help our rehearsals run smoothly, which usually leads to awesome sounding choirs! If we all work within these rules, you can only imagine how good we will sound.

  1. Get to rehearsal on time. In accordance with school policy, you will be considered tardy if you are not sitting in your spot on the risers with all of the supplies necessary for rehearsal (more on that later) when the bell rings. A teacher detention will be assigned for each tardy, and three tardies in a six week period will result in a referral. Students, let’s work together and not hurt the success of our team by being tardy!
  2. No food, drinks, or gum. Bottled water is the exception and is encouraged. There is a garbage can right inside the door. Either toss these items on your way in our leave them with your books and other supplies.
  3. Be prepared. Make sure you have all the supplies you need for every rehearsal. These include a (sharpened) pencil and your music folder.
  4. Follow the rehearsal. We will often move from section to section in the music. Stay alert and be ready to sing. You must always listen to know if what your director is saying applies to you.
  5. Do not talk during rehearsal. So much time is wasted when students talk during rehearsal. It means directions have to be repeated, other students get distracted, and the rehearsal does not run as smoothly. *** Students, there are appropriate times to talk during a rehearsal and inappropriate times to talk. This is one of the biggest challenges you will face this year, and one of the biggest steps you will make towards becoming a master musician. A master musician knows where the line is, and adheres to it during rehearsals. Appropriate times to talk: · Before and after the bell · Answering a question from the director · In-between rehearsal of pieces, I will often give you a few seconds to chat as you get out your music. In all other cases it is inappropriate to talk. Occasionally you may feel the need to ask your neighbor a quick question about the music. This is okay, but understand that if I see it too often it could lead to disciplinary action. We have limited rehearsal time, so let’s not waste it by talking.
  6. Stay focused to the end. Rehearsal ends when your director dismisses the class. We will work right up to the bell.

Attitude
Exhibit a positive and respectful attitude at all times. When you enter the room, you are part of a team. If you don’t feel positive or respectful, fake it. Your team members will appreciate you for not bringing them down with you, and you may even trick yourself into changing your attitude.
