A Note to Parents and Students Welcome to Roach and Fowler MS Choirs! Our schools have a fine tradition of quality vocal ensembles, and I am thrilled that you have decided to be a part of this tradition! I cannot stress how important I believe parental involvement is to the total success of a choir program. The interest that you take in your child’s musical growth will make an enormous difference in his or her individual achievements and in our total success as a team. Please read the following pages carefully with your student, as it explains most of the policies and procedures of the Roach and Fowler Choral Departments. Please note in particular the sections entitled Attendance, Grading, and Calendar. We will be going over these policies extensively in class, but it is important that all of us are “on the same page.” Please sign and date the signature page and complete any and all forms that pertain to your student. These forms need to be returned no later than September 4th. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me using the info located on the Handbook page. Thank you and I look forward to a great year of music making!

Goals The Choral Department exists: - To educate the students involved in the program in basic musical skills and knowledge
- To perform these acquired skills on a regular basis for the rest of the school and community
- To train participating students in self-discipline and teamwork
- To enhance the lives of these students through meaningful musical experiences,
And most importantly, - To develop a life-long passion for the performing arts.
Achieving These Goals The success of a team is measured by the commitment and effort of each individual member. We will achieve these goals as a team only through hard work, responsibility, and cooperation. All students have the right to participate in music programs. However, there are expectations and standards for each student enrolled in choir: - Dedication
- Dependability
- Determination
Conduct The conduct of each individual student is a reflection not only on the individual, but also on other choir members, school and community. In order to ensure the best possible experience for everyone, each student will be expected to follow these rules: - Common courtesy
- Mature conduct
- Rules specific to choir (see below)
- School rules and policies as outlined by the FISD Code of Conduct
