Solo & Ensemble
What is Solo & Ensemble Competition? (6th, 7th and 8th grade students) This event will be held for all Frisco ISD Middle School choir students at Roach MS. Students will choose a song from a prescribed music list. For more information on the PML, please visit: www.uil.utexas.edu/music/pml.html. Unless a student has a private voice instructor, we will make these selections during class. On Saturday, March 27th, students will be assigned to a block of time when they will sing. When they are called, they will sing for one judge. The judge will give them feedback and possibly work with them on the song. The entire process will take eight to ten minutes. Results will be given the following Monday.
This is an optional event for Roach and Fowler choir students. The entry fee is $10.00 and will be used to compensate judges, purchase medals and awards, and materials. Students that choose to participate will receive an automatic grade of "100" no matter what rating they receive. Students that do not choose to participate will sing for Mrs. Wright during class (in the choir office, not in front of other students) and will be graded accordingly on vocal technique, breathing, memorization, and interpretation.
All students will learn a solo! We will begin working on them during class and students will each receive a grade on their performance. They will have two options: 1. Students may participate in our Solo & Ensemble competition, hosted at Roach Middle School on Saturday, March 27th. The fee to enter this competition is $10.00. Students that receive a “1” rating will receive a medal for their achievement. All students that attend this event will receive an automatic grade of “100”. OR 2. Students may perform their song for Mrs. Wright during class the following Monday, on March 31st. Students that perform on this day will be graded on a scale of “100” according to breathing, vocal technique, interpretation, and memorization.
